Additional Goleta Beach Study Approved

Wednesday, August 22, 2018

Amendments to our ongoing State research funding contract are approved, allowing the use of funds—originally for AB411-period research—for more detailed analysis of archived DNA from the 2018 wintertime Goleta Beach disposed mud, beach sands, and surf zone waters. The research includes comparing archived field sample DNA sequences to DNA sequences extracted from potential sources of fecal contamination including upland soil and sewage. The research also evaluates the potential content in archived DNA of a canine-associated DNA marker in the disposed mud, beach sands, and upland soil samples.
